TOP 10 Holiday Gifts Under $1k
So… you’ve been tasked with buying a holiday gift, or maybe you have spotted a friend in need. First thing is first, how much do you like this person? PRO TIP: If you’re unsure, you might want to start from the bottom of the list. However, if you’re in the giving spirit, let’s get started! This list is comprised of something for everyone. I tried to pick items that my personal friends would get the most use out of. I hope this helps your shopping experience, happy browsing!
#1 - Garmin Catalyst
My number one pick under $1k is undoubtedly the Garmin Catalyst! Honestly, it is why this list goes to a thousand. Nothing has come along to revolutionize data like the Catalyst, creating a user-friendly dive into entry-level data. Garmin literally puts the power at the driver's fingertips. If your goal is to help someone shave off a few seconds, this is likely the best gift out there! The kit includes everything that you need to get started.
#2 Bell RS7 SA2020 Helmet
When it comes to helmets, it is a hard pick. There are a lot of really nice helmets for under $1k, but in my opinion, the RS7 is likely the best. The RS7’s fit favors drivers with an intermediate oval head, but many long-oval drivers will also find it to be very comfortable. Bell did an exceptional job on the interior; you will quickly feel the multi-density foam liner, allowing the padding touching your face to be very soft and comfortable while maintaining all the needed structure to guard against heavy impacts. Next on the feature list is the airflow; with large intakes and numerous exhaust vents, fresh air is sure to move freely throughout the helmet. The RS7 is also available in carbon, ultra-light carbon, and duckbill versions.
#3 AIM SOLO 2 DL
The AIM Solo 2 DL is simply the best entry-level data unit available. The Solo 2 picks up where the Garmin starts to get left behind. Allowing for future additions of cameras and sensors, the Solo 2 DL provides an outstanding level of flexibility for someone looking to stare at squiggly lines as a hobby. Depending on what you drive, you might be able to tap into your OBD-II stream and instantly have access to all of your OBD parameters, or you can wire it into your CAN line for fast, clean, simple data. (Available in RS232/CAN, OBD-II, and RPM-only harnesses). Also, easily paired with the AIM SmartyCam line of cameras wink, wink.
#4 Sparco Futura Suit
Crafted from recycled factory fibers, the Futura suit is a first of its kind. Sparco knew that with all the excess from creating other suits, there had to be a way to create another recycling focused line, thus, the Futura series was born. The result is a surprisingly lightweight, sleek material. This is my number one suit under $1k without question. The mid-level price point didn’t make Sparco shy away from any of the high-level options, offering 3-layer construction, 360-degree floating shoulders, lumbar stretch panels, and rugged knee and elbow panels. The Futura should definitely be on your Christmas list.
#5 Lifeline Novec 1230 Fire Suppression System
Friends, don’t let friends stay on fire! So, if you have that, one particularly sketchy friend… you know the one. Maybe the best gift this season is a little insurance. You cannot go wrong with the Lifeline Novec line, with the smallest lightest bottles in the industry, these little units pack a huge amount of fire knockdown ability. Each kit comes with everything that you need to complete the installation, and if you are feeling boujie, there are also electric firing options available.
#6 OMP Steering Wheel Quick Release
Help your loved ones ditch NRG this holiday season. I have not come across another quick release that latches as securely as the OMP does, from the 360-degree release ring to loads of surface area at the contact points; you will not be disappointed with the quality! Fits all standard six bolts steering wheels such as OMP, Sparco, MOMO, and Sabelt.
#7 Road-Keeper HD Video Camera
WAIT!!! You can get a front and rear-facing 1080P camera for less than a GO Pro, and it has GPS data capabilities! This might just be the stocking stuffer that you order for yourself; for right under $400, the Road Keeper is incredible. It comes with everything that you need to start reviewing your sessions, and with extremely adjustable cameras, you can make sure that you are catching every angle that matters. BONUS: we use these in and out of our race cars. These are the single greatest dash cam I have ever tested for street use. So regardless of whether you need a new camera for on-track or getting to the track, you can’t go wrong with Road-Keeper HD.
#8 Stand 21 Club 3 Head and Neck Restraint
The Stand 21 Club 3 is my go-to device for anyone looking at entry-level head and neck restraints. Its improved ergonomics and relentless mission to reduce weight have created a fantastic device. As for fitment, drivers with a 16-inch neck and below should get a medium, and anyone over 16” should get a large. These do not include anchors, so make sure to get the Stand 21 anchors to match. Pro Tip: If you already have HANS post-anchors on your helmet, these will work fine, so there is no need to swap.
#9 Chicane GT3 Racing Shoes
Finally… ladies, there is a shoe designed for you! Chicane is the one and only racing shoe company that created a woman’s specific shoe. The GT3 has a very breathable suede upper with a highly rigid Michelin sole. From the state of the art insole to the checkered heel pull strap, you will instantly understand just how much attention to detail was considered when crafting the GT3. Also, if you just so happen to drive a Zandvoort Blue BWM they are a great match! And…. don’t worry boys, there are men’s sizes as well.
#10 Simpson Equipment Dryer
Give the gift of freshness this year, whether the gift is actually for your loved one or maybe selfish for you. The Simpson dryer is guaranteed to make your loved ones' gear just a little less offensive to the senses. This dryer comes with a couple of attachments allowing you to dry your helmet, gloves, shoes, and well anything else that you can put on it. The single best feature is that both fan and temp settings are on a timer, so you can just set it and forget it.
Bonus Item - Sparco RW-7 Socks
Everyone needs more socks… like everyone. So if you are on the fence about how much you like someone, give them the gift of fresh feet. As for socks, you cannot go wrong with the RW-7 socks from Sparco. They are FIA-rated and very thin, offering flat seems all over to reduce pressure points. Available in black and white. HINT: Get black, they will look fresher longer.
